Mrs. Charlin

STEAM Teacher

Mrs. Charlin is Valor’s STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) Teacher. She is new to Valor, but not new to teaching. Teaching for over 30 years in public, private and homeschooling, she is “over the moon” with excitement to be teaching classes where students do amazing experiments, engineer toys, create works of art, and challenge students to think outside the box.

She was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, but came to America just before her 5th birthday. It was during the first few years in elementary school that God began to cultivate empathy for students who struggle in school. She became a Christian her senior year in high school and later was heavily involved with Campus Crusade for Christ in college, both on campus and in Spanish speaking countries, as a translator for short-term missions. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree and teaching credential from Long Beach State University. She married while she was at Talbot seminary. She has 4 grown children. She attends Journey of Faith church in Torrance.

Mrs. Charlin began her love of teaching when she taught Vacation Bible School on a Navajo reservation in Arizona during her freshmen year in college. While working on her teaching credential her mentor told her, “If you can teach the love of a subject your students will go far beyond the four walls of the classroom.” She has always strived to live up to that advice.

When she is not working, she loves music, dance, crafts, and all things llama.

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.” I Corinthians 9:25
